If you read in my last Life with Emily post, I’m officially hired and this past weekend I got the honor to be apart of the Grand Opening of Great Harvest Bread Co. inmy home town! It was one heck of a day and we sold out of pretty much everything. But no bread is good because that means people like our bread
Along with selling out of almost everything, it was also one loooong day. It didn’t feel so long while I was working because of all the adrenaline brought by all the customers. It hit when I got home and accidentally passed out on the couch for about 3 hours. I guess I was more tired than I thought?!
My day started bright and early at 6am to leave my house by 6:30. I have to be at the bakery by 7am, but I wanted to get there by 6:50am with a little extra cushion time. My first shift was kneading. I was a little nervous about kneading because I couldn’t go to any of the trainings earlier in the week because they were all while I was at school. Therefore, my first kneading experience took place during a live shift… now do you understand why I was a little nervous? Haha! But it all worked out great and the trainers told me that they couldn’t even tell I didn’t come to the training session by the end of my shift! Yippee!
But I’ll tell ya one thing, kneading on a time schedule is hard work! I felt like every 5 minutes another humungous mixing bowl was dumping about batch of bread onto the kneading table!
After we kneaded the bread, the bakers took the bread and popped it in the oven…
& I went to sandwich training… which I picked up pretty quickly if I do say so myself! I had no idea we would get so many sandwich orders, but we counted 115 sandwich orders by the end of the sandwich shift. (Which is 3 hours!)
By the time I was done with sandwiches it was already 2pm!! Where did time go?! And how come I hadn’t noticed my crying hunger by now?! One word… Actually three: Grand Opening Adrenaline. No worries! I quickly fixed that problem and made myself and awesome PB & J…. incase you don’t know, my favorite food comfort food is PB&J!!
After a about 10 minutes of being on break… which was weird having a “break” because there are no such things as “breaks” in school… I was anzious to get back to work and learn a new job. Next up: Customer Service.
I think customer service was my favorite because I got to interact with all the amazing customers and give them samples of whatever they wish! That’s the coolest thing about Great Harvest… you can sample anything!
Our bread racks quickly went from this:
To almost nothing! I got off work around 3:15 and as I mentioned earlier, completely passed out on the couch for the rest of the afternoon upon my arrival home. Overall, my first day at work was amazing! It didn’t even feel like work at all. I have such a love and passion for Great Harvest it’s kind of surreal that I have been presented with the amazing opportunity to work there!
P.S. Thank you to all of my amazing friends who came out to see me on my first day of work… you guys rock! <3
